A New Me

In an effort to improve and get to know myself for the new year, I've been thinking about joining a track club. A co-ed track club. My friend over here has been running a lot lately and I've been inspired by her to get my butt in gear too!

I've done a lot of 5k races and even did a marathon several years ago, but my running skills have disappeared, and I'm ready to find them (and myself) again!

I hope to keep you posted with my progress soon!

Be Gentle With Yourself

This poem by Max Ehrmann is one of my new favorites. It really hits home with me right now, maybe it will mean something to you too.

Desiderata
by Max Ehrmann

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be
greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career
however humble;
it is a real possession in the
changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you
to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself.
Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit
to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore, be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.
With all its sham,
drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.
Strive to be happy.

First Snow...

We got our first snow here in Hartford on Saturday. I was freaking out, mostly because I'm not used to the snow and I'm terrified to drive in it. The three other cities/states I've lived in just didn't get snow all that often. Snow tires may be in my future, and I'm learning to be fairly familiar with the idea that I may be wearing lots of layers of wool this winter.

How cute are snowboots? Can I get away with wearing stilettos? What the heck are cuddleduds? If I fall in the ice and break my tailbone, will my insurance cover it? These are all questions that I've been pondering.

To really get you in the right state of mind for ice and snow, I'll leave you with some photography featuring three Etsy shops: ErinTyner, ChelseaVictoria and Chompzilla.

Trying to Make a Comeback

Hi everyone. I've been gone a couple of months. I had a moment in my life that has completely rocked my world, and though I'm not healed, I'm definitely on my way to making a comeback. I just wanted to pop in a put it out there that I'll be back. Very soon.

Mr. Sunshine Heard Me

Apparently, all you have to do is ask Mr. Sunshine to come to play and he does. The sun is shining, hooray! To show my appreciation, I'm going to soak up as much Vitamin D as I can today. I wonder if I can hook up my work computer outside?

Rain, Rain, Go Away.

Please, Mr. Sunshine, come out to play. I think it's been at least a week since we've seen the sun here in Tulsa. All I want to do is snuggle up on the couch and read a book and watch movies. And drink hot tea. And eat the vegetarian chili that I love so much. But I can't do that, so if we could arrange a little sunshine time that would be great. Mmmkay, thanks.

Hello. Hello Again.

Once again, I've been a little off with blogging. But let me tell you a secret, I'm planning a wedding! Woohoo! The date is sometime in October of next year, so I still have a year to go, but so much can be done ahead of time that it would be silly not to get started.

Right now, I'm working on the guest list and narrowing down my list of venues. Once I've gotten that figured out, I'll start working on Save-the-Date cards. I'm looking forward to finding the perfect design. Here are some of my favorites from Etsy, featuring PinkLilyPress and ElanInk:

College Football

It's here, college football fans! Saturday marked the start of full-on college football season. College war cries were posted all over facebook and my favorite blogs. Roll Tide! War Eagle! Go Cocks! Go Canes!

I've once again added the college football necklaces to my shop. Get one handstamped with your team's rally cry and be sure to wear it for their next game. It could be their lucky charm!

End of Season Favorites

The height of the summer wedding season is almost over. Then we're on to my favorite season: Autumn. Shopping around on Etsy is a wedding planning MUST if you're interested in a handmade wedding or if sustainable materials are your favorite. Either way, you're bound to find something that suits you.

I really love the look of birdcage veils. Vintage or not, they make sure all eyes are on the bride. The featured veil is from Etsy seller Austie.

In need of the perfect clutch for the big day? DesignduJour's pieces are sustainable and earth friendly.

I've been eyeing this ring for a while. Made of white gold and a white sapphire, it's eco-friendly and you don't have to worry about harmful mining practices. From SingleBbeautiful.

And finally, this custom lace corset with sash is the newest endeavor by Rohm...mix and match bridal bodices and skirts.

What to do with all those wine corks...

I received a box FULL of wine corks from someone who works in a wine bar, so I got a little crafty with them. This tray used about 100 or so wine corks for this tray. Imagine what you could do with a thousand!
